Scott Brown: Holder Playing Politics With Zimmerman Verdict

Sunday, 21 July 2013 02:58 PM EDT

Former Massachusetts GOP Sen. Scott Brown said that Attorney General Eric Holder is wrong to make the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial about politics.

"What Attorney General Holder's been doing by getting involved and making it about politics, I think, is wrong," said Brown on "Fox News Sunday."

Brown said the discourse following the Zimmerman verdict should be less about political playmaking and more about problem solving.

"I think they have a moral obligation to get involved and try to find solutions instead of creating more and more rhetoric and divisiveness," Brown said of his former colleagues in the House and Senate and their reactions to the verdict and to President Barack Obama's speech on the issue. "It’s great to have the conversation, but let’s have it in a positive manner."

Obama delivered an intensely personal speech Friday about race relations in America and also about violence in and among the black community after a week of intense debate across the country about the verdict.

"I thought what the president did … there was good and bad because he did, in his comments, address the black-on-black violence," Brown said.
