Britain's spy agencies say the imminent release of a GOP memo on alleged FBI abuses will expose their intelligence-gathering methods and may result in less information-sharing with the United States, according to reports in London newspapers.

President Donald Trump authorized release of the memo Friday afternoon, signing an order to declassify it. Republicans say the memo reveals surveillance abuses by the FBI and the Justice Department. Democrats contend it is filled with falsehoods and ignores many facts. The FBI and Justice Department vehemently opposed releasing the memo.

The Daily Mail noted that the memo is believed to be based largely on the work of former MI6 agent Christopher Steele and is part of the ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.

"British intelligence is likely to be rankled because they view Christopher Steele as one of their own," a source told another British paper, The Telegraph.

The Telegraph also said the three-and-a-half-page memo details how British agencies like MI5, MI6 and the NCA operate and would make them "less likely" to share information in the future.
