Rep. Wenstrup Defends Intel Report: Dems Had Time to Refute

Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee have had plenty of time to refute details in a report showing there was no collusion between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russia, but they haven't provided any evidence yet, Rep. Brad Wenstrup said Friday.

"We've been very professional throughout this, and compiling the data and putting together our facts to be able to put out a report," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

"We felt it was time to do that."

California Rep. Adam Schiff, the committee's top Democrat, has been vocal about how he disagrees with Republicans agreeing to release the report on Thursday, and Wenstrup said he's welcome to present any evidence if he has it.

However, the congressman said he thinks Schiff and the other Democrats on the committee want to keep the group's probe in to Russian meddling "going for the sake of keeping it going."

Wenstrup said he believes committee members did an adequate job with its investigation, and they still have oversight responsibility.

"If something further comes up but this is our report at this time and we feel we've done it comprehensively and it's our opinion there are many things they just want to dig into for the sake of digging into," Wenstrup added. "Look at the Hope Hicks situation. First of all, that was supposed to be closed and they had her nine hours only to put out she may have told white lies for the president such as saying he couldn't come to the phone when maybe indeed he could have. This is what we've been dealing with for quite some time."

He added that when the public sees the Republican report, they'll know that members of his party on the committee did a professional job and its "due diligence," and if something new arises, "we'll deal with it."
