President Donald Trump will travel to California next month to attend a fundraiser in Los Angeles and visit the Mexican border to check out border wall prototypes, according to a new report.

The Washington Post cited administration officials as saying the visit will likely occur in the middle of March. It would be Trump's first trip to the Golden State as president.

Six companies built eight prototypes of border wall near the border east of San Diego. They underwent testing beginning in December to determine how well they can stand up to things like repeated blows and whether or not they would be scalable.

Trump has been critical of California's sanctuary city policies and even suggested last week he could order federal immigration officers and Border Patrol agents to leave California.

California has voted for the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1992. Trump lost the state to Hillary Clinton by about 3.4 million votes.

Trump is looking for roughly $18 billion to build hundreds of miles of new border wall or fencing to separate the U.S. and Mexico. There are currently around 650 miles of border barrier along the 2,000-mile border.
