Former national security adviser John Bolton on Sunday said he’s concerned about “how much damage” President Donald Trump will do before the swearing-in of a president on Jan. 20.

In an interview on CBS News’ "Face The Nation," Bolton called Trump’s attempts to challenge the results of the Nov. 3 “the political equivalent of a street rioter.”

“I think [Joe] Biden will be sworn in,” he said. “I think the real question now is how much damage Trump can do before that happens. Right now, I think Trump is throwing rocks through windows. I think he is the political equivalent of a street rioter. I think he has given up on the legal issues.”

Bolton added that Trump’s challenges are “playing for time and in hopes that something will emerge that allows him either to have a good reason why he has lost or, in his mind, maybe still to win.”

“I think that is simply emphasizing the need for senior Republican leaders to join those who have begun to come out and say, Trump's behavior is inexcusable,” Bolton said, noting: “For those worried about Trump's reaction, there are strength in numbers.”

Bolton urged the Republican Party to be more like it was under President Ronald Reagan.

“There is no Trumpism,” Bolton said. “The man does not have a philosophy.”

But Bolton praised Trump for having “brought people into the party, disaffected with the Democrats and working class people and blue collar workers. I think that is great. “

“I want a party like Ronald Reagan's, optimistic and forward looking and trying to unite the country around conservative values,” he said.
