Bob Dole Attacks Obama Policies in Ad for Rep. Lynn Jenkins

Tuesday, 22 July 2014 05:40 PM EDT

Former Republican Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole, who turned 91 on Tuesday, has lost none of his political zest for "big challenges," attacking Obamacare and the scandal-plagued Internal Revenue Service and Veterans Administration in a new campaign ad for a Kansas lawmaker.

The ad, titled "The Kansas Way," features Dole's voice-over ticking off top issues facing the nation as he endorses Republican Kansas Rep. Lynn Jenkins for re-election.

"America faces big challenges," the World War II hero says. "The IRS and VA scandals. Medicare in trouble and Obamacare making things worse. But I believe in America because I believe in leaders like Lynn Jenkins. She works hard on the big issues.

"Lynn sticks to her conservative principles but she gets things done, it's the Kansas way," Dole declares.

A picture of Dole with Jenkins ends the campaign spot —  a "coup" for Jenkins, the Washington Examiner reports.

In an interview last April, Dole —  who ran unsuccessfully against President Bill Clinton in 1996 —  talked about his days on the front lines of presidential politics.

"I miss it," he said in an interview with the Wichita Eagle. "I miss being in the eye of the storm."

Dole conducted a nine-county tour in April 2013 to "shake hands, share a few stories . . . thank all the people who supported me for 30 years," he told the Eagle, joking:

"My trouble is that I have a 45-year-old mind trapped in a 90-year-old body."
