Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg gave $500,000 to super PACs supporting Sens. Lindsey Graham and Thad Cochran for primary races against conservative opponents,
Politico reported.
Billionaire Bloomberg gave $250,000 to the political action committee backing Graham, a South Carolina Republican, for his primary battle last month, which he won comfortably, Politico said, citing a source it didn't identify.
The donation to West Main Street Values PAC is due to be revealed in financial filings that will be made public on Tuesday, the Politico source said.
Last month, filings showed that Bloomberg also donated $250,000 to a super PAC supporting Cochran, a Mississippi Republican, in his contentious primary with state Sen. Chris McDaniel.
Bloomberg has been backing incumbents in primaries "who have a track record of working across party lines," according to the source.
Graham, who had upset conservatives with his support of immigration reform, beat a divided field of six GOP opponents, while Cochran defeated McDaniel in such a tight runoff race that the tea party member has
questioned the result.
