Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee are trying to show that people are afraid they'll lose their healthcare preexisting coverage if Judge Amy Coney Barrett's nomination to the Supreme Court is approved when they are really concerned that a court including her will block many of their other agenda items, Sen. Marsha Blackburn said Tuesday.

"The problem is, people are not going to lose their healthcare," the Tennessee Republican, a Judiciary Committee member, said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "Preexisting coverage is not going to be taken away and they know that."

Instead, Democrats are concerned that a court where a majority are constitutionalists or textualists would block their plans to take away private healthcare from 178 million Americans, said Blackburn.

"It would block their plan for D.C. statehood," the senator said. "It would block their plan for the Green New Deal and repealing all the tax cuts, upping the corporate tax rate. That's what they're concerned about."

Blackburn also slammed a line of questioning from Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., who told Barrett that her confirmation would turn the clock back to a time when it was acceptable to discriminate against women in the workplace and roll back other rights against workers and the LGBTQ community.

"It was condescending," said Blackburn. "It was meant to diminish and belittle her. It was very paternalistic. It was disrespectful ... this is just not the truth. We are talking about an imminently qualified, successful legal superstar. She has earned the right to be where she is."

Democrats, she added, don't want the court to tilt away from having activist judges.

"What we want are textualists and constitutionalists," said Blackburn. "We do not want activists. We are the body to legislate. They are the body to apply the law."
