New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is expected to reveal a presidential run next week, according to a new report.
The New York Daily News cited three sources who confirmed the mayor's plan.
De Blasio, who first took office as mayor in 2014, may announce his plans on May 8, which happens to be his birthday, the Daily News reported.
The mayor's Fairness PAC has been active in recent months, paying for his trips to Nevada, Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina — all states with early presidential primaries next year.
"Very hard to announce something without a decision — nearly impossible, some might say," Fairness PAC spokesman Mike Casca told the Daily News.
A Democrat, de Blasio is an outspoken critic of the GOP and, in particular, President Donald Trump. If he throws his hat into the ring, the number of Democrats running to unseat Trump would number nearly two dozen.
