De Blasio: New York Will Abide by Paris Climate Agreement

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said his city would abide by the Paris climate accord even if President Donald Trump withdraws the U.S. from the international agreement on addressing climate change.

De Blasio, a Democrat, slammed the president's decision on Wednesday in a series of tweets.

The president withdrawing from the Paris Agreement would be horribly destructive for the planet, the country, and this city.

President Trump should know that climate change is a dagger aimed straight at the heart of New York City.

The Paris Accord was the biggest step forward we've taken in many years. It's unconscionable for the president to step away from it.

The president announced Wednesday that he would announce his decision on the accord "within a few days."

Mayor de Blasio has been a frequent critic of Trump. Last week, Politico reported that he rejected Trump's proposed federal budget, saying the funding cuts in the budget will be harmful.

"Children will die," de Blasio said.
