Former President Bill Clinton called President Barack Obama's signature health care law a "crazy system" on Monday, during a campaign event for Hillary Clinton in Michigan.

"It doesn't many any sense. The insurance model doesn't work here," Clinton said, referring to Obamacare's government-run marketplaces.

While it "works fine" for those with a "modest" income, but "the people that are getting killed in this deal are small business people and individuals who make just a little too much to get any of these subsidies."

"You've got this crazy system where all of a sudden 25 million more people have health care and then the people are out there busting it, sometimes 60 hours a week, wind up with their premiums doubled and their coverage cut in half.

"It's the craziest thing in the world," Clinton added.

The Obama administration and Obama himself have expressed publicly that they are willing to alter the Affordable Care Act, but blame Republicans for being unwilling to compromise, and only seek to repeal the law.

"What I would also say is that since the very first day the President signed this bill into law, he acknowledged an openness to working with Democrats or Republicans in Congress to further strengthen it," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday during a press briefing, CNN reports.

"And we have seen a sustained commitment on the part of Republicans to trying to tear down that law."

According to The Root, last month Clinton appeared to say Obama's time in office was an "awful legacy."

"If you believe we can rise together, if you believe we've finally come to the point where we can put the awful legacy of the last eight years behind us and the seven years before that, where we were practicing trickle-down economics, then you should vote for her," the former president said during a campaign stop in Spokane, Washington.

A spokesperson for Clinton clarified that the former president was "referring to the GOP's obstructionism and not President Obama's legacy."
