Republicans have an unexpected ally in their quest to recapture the White House in 2016: Bill Clinton, according to Bill Kristol, founder and editor of The Weekly Standard.
Kristol believes the former president's disclosure that Hillary Clinton needed six months to fully recover from a blood clot — contradicting her claim it was only a month — is a big plus for the GOP.
"Bill Clinton will end up being a help to Republicans because he just can't shut up and he's going to say enough things that will lead to further inquiries," Kristol told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

In addition to her husband being a liability to a possible presidential run, the former secretary of State may also give Republicans ammunition with the release of her new book on June 10th.
"Hard Choices" is described by publisher Simon & Schuster as an "inside account of the crises, choices, and challenges she faced during [Clinton's] four years as America’s 67th Secretary of State, and how those experiences drive her view of the future."
"People are now going to look at her account of her tenure as secretary of state and what she did in different areas of the world, the Middle East, Israel, Boko Haram, Benghazi, Russia … and really appropriately go over those carefully," Kristol says.
"[The Clinton camp] thought a year ago this book is a total winner, they'll make millions of dollars, it'll be a victorious book tour.
"If Republicans are doing their job in terms of research … it could really end up being a big problem for her. I don't think she'll be entirely candid about everything she did and didn't do. She'll give a very rosy picture of some of [it].''
Kristol, who is also an ABC News contributor, said Karl Rove — who made waves by reportedly suggesting Clinton suffered brain damage from the blood clot — shouldn't have brought up the issue of her health so early on.
"It's just foolish in the sense of there will be plenty of time to demand that medical records be released, there'll be plenty of time for voters to see what kind of condition Mrs. Clinton's in," Kristol said.
"This is no need to raise that issue now, especially when … this is the height of the moment to raise the issue of Benghazi and to raise the issue of Boko Haram and what the Clinton State Department did or didn't do about that.
"Her main vulnerability remains what she did and didn't do as secretary of state and to keep the focus on that for a while."
