Betsy DeVos, the Secretary of Education, commented on President Donald Trump calling Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., "Pocahontas."

"I think we can all do well to reflect on the things we say before we say them," DeVos said Wednesday during a visit to Tennessee, according to The Tennessean.

Trump made the comment during an event that honored Native American code talkers, who worked with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II to develop a secret code. He has jabbed at Warren in the past, referring to her as "Pocahontas" because of her claims to have Native American ancestry.

On Monday, Native American groups criticized the president for the comment.

"All tribal nations still battle insensitive references to our people. The prejudice that Native American people face is an unfortunate historical legacy," said Navajo Nation President Russell Begaye, according to The Chicago Tribune.

During her trip, DeVos shared praise for the president, as well.

"I think the president continues to lead in an important direction for our country," DeVos said in The Tennessean.
