Education Secretary Betsy DeVos has a message for striking teachers in Oklahoma: Keep adult disagreements out of schools.
Her comments came while touring a middle school in Dallas last week, according to the Dallas Morning News.
"I think about the kids," DeVos said. "I think we need to stay focused on what's right for kids. And I hope that adults would keep adult disagreements and disputes in a separate place, and serve the students that are there to be served."
The Washington Post noted thousands of Oklahoma teachers gathered last week making demands for additional money for the state's schools.
The protests began over teachers' pay, but educators have shifted their focus to get state lawmakers to invest more in schools.
Many of the state's schools are expected to be closed this week as teachers press their demands.
