Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, came to the defense of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Tuesday after the senator and his wife were confronted by protesters while dining at a Washington, D.C. restaurant.
O’Rourke is challenging Cruz in what has turned out to be a surprisingly tight Senate race.
“Not right that Sen. Cruz and his wife Heidi were surrounded and forced to leave a restaurant last night because of protesters," O'Rourke tweeted.
“The Cruz Family should be treated with respect.”
Cruz was hounded from a restaurant by a group of people protesting the senator’s support for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, the HuffPost reported.
Video footage of the incident, posted on Twitter by an account called “smashracismDC,” shows the activists confronted Cruz in the restaurant as they chanted, “We believe survivors!”
