NBC's Matt Lauer questioned whether Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders should stay in the race after his defeat by Hillary Clinton in New York's primary.
"If you're Bernie Sanders waking up this morning for breakfast, you should be ordering coffee, toast, and a side order of reality," the "Today Show" host said,
according to the Daily Caller.
Lauer questioned whether Sanders was willing to admit defeat.
"Is he the kind of guy, though, who knows when the game is over?" asked Lauer.
"Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd said if Sanders got into the race "to lead a movement," then he should stay in.
Todd said it's possible that Sanders' goal was to point out the relevance of his viewpoints to the Democratic Party, as if Sanders is saying, "My wing of the Democratic Party is a rising wing. You need to take notice."
If Sanders believes his goal is to air his viewpoints and make a statement, to "win the ideological war," then "that's a healthy place to be," Todd said during the NBC show.
MSNBC reports that Sanders' campaign manager said his plan is to focus on the super delegates, which could mean going against the will of voters.
Sanders' campaign "is not productive for the Democrats," said Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton's communications director, "and has not been productive for the country,"
according to a CNN report.
Super delegate Rep. Dan Lipinski of Illinois has already come out in favor of Sanders,
according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
