Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., will travel to Iowa next week for a rally for Pete D'Alessandro, a campaign aide now running for Congress, the Des Moines Register is reporting.

The Feb. 23 trip will mark the first time Sanders has been back to Iowa this year. However, he has visited the state twice since his 2016 presidential campaign ended, according to the newspaper.

D'Alessandro, a Democratic candidate for Congress, served as a top adviser to Sanders during the senator's close Iowa caucuses campaign in 2016, the Register reported.

"Bernie knows that we need bold, progressive leaders in Congress if we're going to change the direction of our country," D'Alessandro said. "That's why I'm proudly supporting Medicare for All, a $15/hour living wage, and free college tuition for those who work hard. We can take our country back and continue the movement Bernie started here in 2016."

Meanwhile, Sanders has met with top political advisers to discuss making another possible bid for the White House in 2020, Politico has reported.

The website noted he had yet to make any formal decisions, but wants to be ready in case he decides to enter the race.
