Sen. Bernie Sanders supporters — from his 2016 presidential campaign's top officials to field organizers — are wary of a 2020 run, fearing enthusiasm has waned for the progressive Vermont Independent, Politico reported Thursday.

Though former campaign manager Jeff Weaver has talked about a "Draft Bernie PAC" after the midterms, many supporters have been noncommittal, the news outlet reported, citing two unnamed sources.

"I've spoken with a number of people who are interested in a draft-Bernie movement," Weaver countered to the Politico report. "My email is full and my voicemail is full of former Bernie staffers who are eager to come back, should he run."

Others who were at the top of the campaign structure, however, do not seem to be ready for a reboot, Politico reported.

Sanders' chief of staff, Michaeleen Earle Crowell left Sanders' Senate office this past summer to work for a private lobbying firm, surprising some in the Senator's inner circle, Politico reported. And Sanders' communications director in 2016, Michael Briggs, said in a text message it was "unlikely" he would join a 2020 run.

Those who are unsure about supporting Sanders in 2020 say there are other considerations now.

"He's the grandpa of the movement," said one unnamed campaign worker for Sanders in 2016. "But that might not make him the best choice for 2020."
