Freshman Bentivolio Likely to Face Primary Challenge

By    |   Wednesday, 22 May 2013 01:44 PM

Michigan freshman GOP Rep. Kerry Bentivolio could be facing a primary challenge, according to chatter at Tuesday's Lincoln Day Dinner in Oakland County.

Teacher and U.S. Army veteran Bentivolio won the GOP nomination last year after then-Rep. Thad McCotter was forced off the ballot because of a controversy concerning signatures on nomination petitions.

Bentivolio, 61, has kept his distance from party activists — he didn't attend the dinner — and upset tea party backers with his vote to lift the debt ceiling.

Farmington Hills lawyer David Trott, chairman of the Lincoln Day Dinner, has been mentioned as a primary challenger.

"There's been talk of that, but tonight's about the hard-working volunteers of Oakland County," Trott told Newsmax.
