Mayor Barrett Won't Press Charges Against Attacker

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will not seek charges against a woman who slapped him because he conceded to Republican Gov. Scott Walker in Wisconsin’s recall election, according to USA Today.

Barrett, after telling supporters at his election night rally in downtown Milwaukee that he phoned Walker to congratulate him, waded through a crowd of media and supporters. A woman who was upset that Barrett called Walker while there were still voters in the building casting ballots slapped him and it was caught on video.

“That's life in the big city," Barrett said, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Walker survived the recall election in a decisive victory that dealt a blow to the labor movement and raised Republican hopes of defeating President Barack Obama in the November election. Unions and liberal activists forced the recall election over a law curbing collective bargaining powers for public sector workers passed soon after Walker took office in 2011.
