Barrasso: Pelosi 'Surrendered to the Mob' Over Columbus Statue

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn't condemning violence in her home town of Baltimore after protesters tore down a statue of Christopher Columbus and threw it into the city's Inner Harbor because she "has now surrendered to the mob," Sen. John Barrasso said Friday.

"This just shows you how radical and out of touch and dangerous the Democratic Party has become under this coalition they put together with the Socialists and the Marxists," the Wyoming Republican said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

Pelosi, when asked during a press conference Thursday about the vandalism, responded that "people will do what they do" and that it's "up to the communities to decide what statues they want to see."

"This is the city of Baltimore where Nancy Pelosi's father was the mayor and likely contributed money and time to the putting up of that statue to Christopher Columbus," said Barrasso. "Now she's fine with tearing it down."

However, it's not just about the statute, but about the cancel culture movement from the "far dangerous left of our country, people who want to cancel and defund the police, want to go after the church...go after free speech," said Barrasso. "All of those things are being attacked and (she is) willing to stand by and let it happen."

He added that calls to boycott Goya Foods after CEO Robert Unanue told President Donald Trump that the country is "blessed" under his leadership is another example of how the left movement is harming the country.

"(He) is a man who loves America, donated a ton of food to New York during the pandemic, and was at the White House because the president was signing an executive order in terms of Hispanic education opportunities," said Barrasso. "It is absolutely astonishing how this cancel culture has moved to say we will attack you."
