The Justice Department says Attorney General William Barr has no plans to step down.

The Washington Post and Associated Press reported Tuesday that Barr has told people close to President Donald Trump that he is considering quitting if the president does not stop tweeting about Justice Department cases.

But Justice Department spokesperson Kerri Kupec, in a Tuesday night tweet, wrote: “Addressing Beltway rumors: The Attorney General has no plans to resign.”

White House officials had told the Post the president is not going to stop tweeting about the Justice Department. The officials said Trump sees pointing out misconduct at the FBI and DOJ as good political messaging.

Barr had commented about the president’s tweets came during an interview with ABC News just days after his Justice Department overruled its own prosecutors — who had recommended  that Trump confidant Roger Stone be sentenced to seven to nine years in prison — and took the extraordinary step of lowering the amount of prison time it would seek.

Trump had blasted the original sentencing recommendation as “very horrible and unfair.”

More than 2,000 former DOJ employees have called for Barr’s resignation.
