President Barack Obama on Wednesday implored Democrats in North Carolina to support Hillary Clinton at the polls next week because "the fate of the republic rests on your shoulders."

"I hate to put a little pressure on you," Obama told a rally in Chapel Hill. "The fate of the world is teetering — and you, North Carolina, are going to have to make sure that we push it in the right direction.

"I am not on the ballot, but I tell you what: Fairness is on the ballot. Decency is on the ballot. Justice is on the ballot. Progress is on the ballot. Our democracy is on the ballot."

He then slammed Republican Donald Trump for the 2005 video in which he made sexually suggestive remarks and talked about having sex with married women.

"If you disrespect women before you are elected president, you will disrespect women when you are in office," the president said.

"Imagine what you'll actually do when you have to the power of the Constitution along those lines."

The president added that Republicans are already planning to heavily investigate Clinton — possibly even impeach her if she win next week over the email scandal.

"They're promising years of investigations years of hearings, more shutdowns, more obstruction," he said.

"You've got some Republicans in Congress already suggesting they will impeach Hillary," President Obama added. She hasn't even been elected yet.

"It doesn't matter what evidence, they'll find something. That's what they're saying already.

"How does our democracy function like that?"
