Stephen Bannon said he hasn’t spoken with President Donald Trump since being pushed out as chief strategist last August amid his controversial remarks in the gossipy White House tell-all “Fire and Fury.”
In an interview with ABC News’ “This Week” on Sunday, Bannon — who was quoted in the book as calling Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with Russians in 2016 “treasonous” and that Ivanka Trump is “dumb as a brick” — was effusive in his praise of the president and his policies.
But asked if he’s talking directly to Trump, Bannon replied. “No.”
“I talk to him … through the media,” he added. “All he has to do is listen to his own inner voice. Write this down. An astounding victory in November. He'll run the tables in the House and pick up seats in the Senate.”
Bannon also staunchly defended Trump as haviing never lied about anything “to my knowledge” — but then added, “except when he called me 'Sloppy Steve.’”
