Former White House strategist Steve Bannon on Sunday said Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg is an “oligarch” who is trying to buy his way to the White House.
In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Bannon railed at the candidacy of the multi-billionaire businessman and former mayor of New York City.
“Michael Bloomberg, you're seeing an oligarch come in here, [an] oligarch committed $2 billion not to make president but to… use his capital and organization and technology to defeat [President Donald] Trump,” he said.
“That is why this is very dangerous. Now you're seeing an oligarch — has no chance at all to actually defeat Trump — as presidential candidate do something much more dangerous to this republic,” he continued. “That is why it has to be followed. It is serious. He can apply capital like nobody else. He is worth over $70 billion. He can put this to work.”
Bannon also pointed to the coronavirus epidemic as proving the “downside of globalization” and “why President Trump has been talking about economic nationalism.”
“The issue is this interlocking distribution chain you have has certain security risks to it,” he said. “Not just national security but health security. That is what we're seeing. Major industrial center outside of southern China is in complete lockdown.”
“People ought to focus right now is the third quarter. In China, they don't open these factories, don't start to stop the quarantines next couple weeks you will have a real impact,” he added.
According to Bannon, a glitch in the Des Moines poll amplifies Trump’s 2016 claim of a rigged system.
“President Trump always said [it’s] a rigged game,” he said. “The thing that comes out of the Des Moines Register poll, the reason it didn't publish, it had technical problem? I guarantee you they get to the bottom of this, comes out couple days after the caucuses, [Sen.] Bernie [Sanders, I-Vt.] would be up a couple points. They're trying to stiff Bernie because the censors there are in a panic mode. The whole thing is rigged. Democrats, particularly Bernie Sanders supporters, understand you're playing a rigged game.”
