New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is not taking a White House job despite a New York Post report saying he told his staff he was doing so, Axios reports.

Christie adviser Mike DuHaime told Axios that the report was "absolutely not true."

Another Trump aide said "100% wrong. The Christie chatter is as always generated by Christieland."

The New York Post reported Saturday that Christie was telling staff and friends that he was taking a position with President Donald Trump’s administration.

But Christie, according to Axios, is in talks with Trump about "participating in [and perhaps chairing] an independent outside 'opioids task force' along with many others while he remains governor," an aide said.

Christie has had talks in the past with Trump about different roles in the White House but, according to reports, has turned most of them down. He was rumored to be in the running for the job as attorney general but the job went to former Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions.

Christie earlier this month on CNN's "State of the Union" said he had no intention, "nor any understanding, that I will be asked to be in the administration in the years to come."

"My view is, I have got a job to do as governor, and then my intention is to go off to the private sector and to help support my family."
