MSNBC host Chris Matthews on Wednesday lambasted President Donald Trump, saying he is so far removed himself from the special counsel's probe into his administration he has "a mouthpiece with a mouthpiece."
That was a reference to a quote from a spokesman for Trump's personal lawyer Marc Kasowitz. In The Washington Post story late Wednesday that focused on the special counsel probe widening to include possible obstruction of justice by Trump, Kasowitz spokesman Mark Corallo said, "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal."
"What do you think of this lawyer's mouthpiece?" Matthews asked during a panel discussion on "Hardball." "Now we've got a mouthpiece with a mouthpiece. You don't even go to a lawyer, but a lawyer's flak."
The whole issued smacked of Trump not only trying to control things, but to not be seen as a part of it, Matthews said.
"I've never seen a White House so good at avoiding responsibility for anything," he said in a later segment. "Trump, if history is any indication, is going to try to control this, going to try to get in front of this, and that’s where he could run into even more headaches."
