Pointing back to President Donald Trump's "good people on both sides" remarks from the Charlottesville, Virginia protests, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said the president "should just stop talking."

"This is like Charlottesville all over again: He speaks and he makes it worse," Bottoms told CNN's "State of the Union." "There are times when you should just be quiet, and I wish that he would just be quiet."

Bottoms had joined Jake Tapper after making an impassioned plea for rioting to stop in her city. She added a call for a White House intervention, too, against the president.

"Or, if he can't be silent, if there is somebody of good sense and good conscience in the White House, put him in front of a teleprompter and pray that he reads it, and at least says the right things, because he is making it worse," Bottoms told Tapper.

Bottoms was generally responding to Trump's myriad riot objections, including references to "looting" leading to "shootings" and dogs and weapons being used on protests who would try to jump the White House fence.
