The left-leaning Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue have ''assaulted Georgia’s election system'' by calling for the Peach State’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to resign.

In an editorial posted above the flag, the paper railed at the ''shocking charges for this pair to level at the person — and the office — responsible for overseeing elections here.''

Loeffler and Perdue issued a joint statement on Monday which said Raffensperger, a fellow Republican, ''failed to deliver honest and transparent elections. He has failed the people of Georgia, and he should step down immediately."

The Journal-Constitution, which is rated left-leaning by several media watchdog groups including allsides.com and mediabiasfactcheck, assailed Loeffler and Perdue, saying they ''offered no specifics, at least not for the record.''

Multiple media outlets have repeatedly reported there are no credible claims of voter fraud in Georgia, yet the Trump campaign on its website claimed numerous reports of dead people voting and Newsmax contributor Dick Morris on Tuesday said the state Republican Party was tracking down 27,000 instances where people over 90 voted.

Additionally, nearly 80,000 votes in the Atlanta suburban county of Gwinnett will need to be rerun, recounted and readjudicated because of software problems reading the ballots.

Reported election results show Democrat Joe Biden with an approximately 14,000-vote lead over President Donald Trump, about three-tenths of 1%, which has resulted in the state calling for a hand recount.

Perdue defeated Democrat Jon Ossoff by nearly 2% in a three-way race with Libertarian Shane Hazel, but was a few thousand votes short of the 50% needed to avoid a runoff.

Loeffler, who was appointed to fill the retired Johnny Isakson seat in 2019, received 25.9% of the vote in a special primary/general election with 20 declared candidates, and trails Democrat Raphael Warnock by about 7%.

However, Loeffler and fellow Republican candidate Doug Collins received a total vote of about 46%, more than Warnock and the next four Democrats combined.

Loeffler and Warnock also are headed for a runoff.
