President Joe Biden’s pick to serve on the National Security Council previously served as a leader of a nonprofit heavily influenced by the Chinese Communist Party and “tantamount to a front group,” intelligence analyst Anders Corr told The Washington Free Beacon.

Kurt Campbell, who is set to join the Biden White House as the NSC’s Indo-Pacific coordinator — a new position dubbed “Asia czar” — served as vice president of the U.S.-China Strong Foundation until at least August 2020.

The group was launched in 2013 to strengthen U.S.-China relations through study abroad and Mandarin language learning. The Free Beacon, citing State Department and Department of Justice records, says its leaders include prominent “members of the Chinese government’s overseas propaganda fronts.”

Corr, publisher of the Journal of Political Risk, told the news outlet the foundation “could be a CCP front group, or so heavily influenced by the CCP as to be tantamount to a front group.”

Florence Fang, a Chinese American philanthropist who sits on the board and corporate leadership council of the nonprofit, also serves as the honorary president of the San Francisco chapter of the National Association for China’s Peaceful Unification, which, according to the State Department, is controlled by the United Front Work Department, the Chinese government’s primary overseas propaganda agency.

The association promotes unified Chinese control over Taiwan.

"The kinds of groups that Campbell associates with typically promote 'engagement,' 'cooperation,' and 'understanding' between the U.S. and China," said Corr. "The words sound great, but the CCP is using these words as cover for infiltration operations."
