Democrats fighting an audit of Arizona's election results is not only an admission of using "unconstitutional" election processes, but it shows the Democratic Party "has gone absolutely insane," says former President Donald Trump.
"The radical left Democrat Party has gone absolutely insane in fighting the forensic audit of the 2020 presidential election Scam right now taking place in the Great State of Arizona," Trump wrote in a statement to Newsmax from his Save America PAC. "They sent a team of over 100 lawyers to try and stop it because they know what the result of the Arizona Senate sponsored audit will be — and it won't be good for the Dems."
Trump stressed transparency through an independent audit should be a good thing for American democracy, but instead Democrats are ostensibly showing intent for a cover up, he added.
"The audit is independently run, with no advantage to either side, but the Democrats don't want to hear anything about it because they know that they lost Arizona, and other scam election States, in a landslide," Trump's statement read. "They also know that the Arizona State Legislature approved virtually none of their many election requests, which is totally unconstitutional."
Trump said free, fair elections are vital to American democracy and the audit merely seeks to share the "truth" with the American people.
"The people of Arizona are very angry, as are the people of our country," Trump's statement concluded. "If we can't have free and fair elections, we don't have a country. The audit must continue. America deserves the truth!"
The Arizona state Senate used its subpoena power to take possession of all 2.1 million ballots in Maricopa County and the machines that counted them, along with computer hard drives full of data.
"I think the activities that are taking place here are reckless and they in no way, shape or form resemble an audit," said Jennifer Morrell, a partner at Elections Group, a consulting firm advising state and local election officials, which has not worked in Arizona.
Trump on Friday predicted the audit would reveal fraud and prompt similar reviews in other states he lost.
"Thank you State Senators and others in Arizona for commencing this full forensic audit," Trump's Friday statement read. "I predict the results will be startling!"
Cyber Ninjas began a manual recount of ballots Friday, a day after Democrats asked a judge to put an end to the audit. The judge ordered the company to follow ballot and voter secrecy laws and demanded they turn over written procedures and training manuals before a hearing Monday on the Democrats' request. He offered to pause the count over the weekend if Democrats posted a $1 million bond to cover added expenses, but the party declined.
