Huffington Post Editor-in-Chief Arianna Huffington on Sunday defended her website's coverage of Donald Trump, calling the GOP front-runner, "a little bit like Kim Jong Un."
Just like the North Korean leader, Huffington said, Trump is "both a buffoon and he’s dangerous."
In an appearance on
CNN's "Reliable Sources," Huffington said that the HuffPost decided to initially cover Trump's White House run in the Entertainment section because he was seen as a buffoon. But after he suggested banning Muslim immigration, she saw him as a "clear and present danger," and moved him to Politics while including an editor's note at the end of every story about him.
That note reads: "Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S."
Huffington said she defends that note because it reminds the site's writers and readers daily that Trump "is escalating violence at his rallies, he's proposing to ban an entire religion, he's making misogynistic comments and he's the only presidential candidate ever who believes that Barack Obama was not born in this country."
Huffington slammed the press for not challenging Trump more. That included Bob Woodward's recent interview in which Huffington said Woodward should have asked Trump about his birther claims and calls to ban Muslims.
