President Donald Trump had a 42.7% average approval rating for the 10th quarter, the highest for his term, and besting Democrat Jimmy Carter's rating for the same period in 1979, according to Gallup poll results released Thursday.

Trump's approval rating among Americans for the April 20-to-July 19 quarter was boosted by "strong economic news and the initial findings from Robert Mueller's report on the Russia investigation," Gallup said.

The president's 42.7% average is his best quarterly rate so far, surpassing the 41.9% during his sixth quarter in office.

Trump's overall job-approval rating, however, is 44%, according to a Gallup survey conducted July 1-12.

By comparison, Carter had a 30.7% rating in the 10th quarter of 1979, amid the energy crisis and escalating gas prices.
