Conservative columnist Ann Coulter is saying tea party challenger Chris McDaniel should concede in the Mississippi primary runoff or face "political oblivion."
In her latest column, Coulter does not mince words when she asserts that by contesting the results of his June 24 loss to incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran, McDaniel is "is being led down a primrose path to political oblivion" by his supporters who are treating "control of the Senate as if it's a prom queen election."
McDaniel has alleged there was widespread voter fraud and he and others have called into question
the legitimacy of Cochran's 7,667 vote victory.
"Hoping for yet a third primary vote, McDaniel's crew is going to prevent him from having any political career, ever again," Coulter writes drawing comparisons with former Vice President Al Gore and other political candidates who have unsuccessfully challenged voting results.
The New York Times reported this week that an analysis of the votes show African-American and Democratic voters played a crucial role in Cochran's victory.
According to an analysis performed by reporters Nate Cohn and Derek Willis, approximately half of Cochran's 7,667-vote margin of victory came from Democratic districts won by President Barack Obama in 2012. Cochran won Obama voters by 20 to 1 in the runoff.
While Coulter and the state Republican Party have urged McDaniel to concede, his challenge is gaining support from other conservative groups, namely the Senate Conservatives Fund.
This week the Fund made a $70,000 contribution to his legal defense fund,
Yahoo! News reported on July 9.
According to its website,
the Fund has raised $93,700, which almost reaches their $100,000 goal.
