Fifty-four percent of likely Florida voters support Democrat Andrew Gillum for governor, compared to 45 percent who back former Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., a new Quinnipiac University Poll reveals.
Gillum, the mayor of Tallahassee, had led DeSantis by only three percentage points in a Sept. 4 Quinnipiac survey.
Here is how the current poll breaks down:
- 9 percent of Republicans back Gillum, along with 96 percent of Democrats and 56 percent of Independents.
- 90 percent of Republicans favor DeSantis, along with 2 percent of Democrats and 40 percent of Independents.
- 55 percent have a favorable opinion of Gillum, compared to 31 percent who view him unfavorably.
- 42 percent have a favorable view of DeSantis, while 47 percent have an unfavorable opinion of him.
The poll, conducted from Sept. 20-24, surveyed 888 likely voters in Florida. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
