New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s job performance rating has hit its lowest ever, with 64 percent of registered state voters saying he is doing a fair or poor job and only 34 percent saying his performance is excellent or good, according to a Siena College Poll released on Tuesday.

This negative opinion of the three-term Democratic governor comes even as 51 percent of voters in the same survey say that Cuomo has made the state a better place to live during his nine years on the job, while 39 percent disagree.

In addition, “since June, Cuomo’s favorability rating has fallen double digits with Democrats, Republicans, independents and voters from every region of the state,” according to Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg and now stands at 43 favorable, 50 percent unfavorable. This compares with 52 percent favorable, 42 percent unfavorable in June.

Other results of the survey show:

  • By a 52-33 percent margin, voters say the recently concluded legislative session will move the state on the right track, not in the wrong direction.
  • Voters say by a 68-22 percent margin that it’s better if both parties control at least one branch of state government to provide checks and balances.
  • By a 53-41 percent margin, voters support the new law allowing certain congressional leaders to have access to state tax returns of any New Yorker, including President Donald Trump.

The poll was conducted between July 28 and Aug. 1 among 810 New York State registered voters. It has an overall margin of error of 4.1 percentage points, including the design effects resulting from weighting.
