Joe Biden refused to confirm Friday that Sen. Amy Klobuchar is on his shortlist for potential running mates following reports that he had to asked to vet the Minnesota Democrat.
However, he didn't comment on another person who has been named as potential vice presidential candidate, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., after he was asked during a CNBC "Squawk Box" interview about her as a "potential running mate" being against large mergers or acquisitions.
"We don't know that, by the way," Biden interjected, when Klobuchar's name came up.
Biden also dodged the question about Klobuchar during an appearance on CBS's "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" Thursday night, reports Time.
“I honest to God don’t know who — I promise you — right now,” he said on CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” "No one's been vetted yet by the team."
He told Colbert that attorneys working on the search are reaching out to a “preliminary list of people” to and asking them general questions about they would or would not be interested in the job.
However, on Thursday, a growing list of women reportedly were advancing to a round of more intense vetting, NBC News reports.
A source told NBC News that Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla., has formally begun interviewing with the Biden campaign and that the vetting process is underway.
Demings also said in an interview earlier this week on SiriusXM that she is on Biden's shortlist, and that she'd accept the job if he offers it."
“If Vice President Biden asked me to serve along with him, I would be honored to do just that,” she said.
On Thursday, NBC News reported that Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., declined a request to be vetted. According to other reports, Sen. Maggie Hassan, also of New Hampshire, had agreed to be vetted for the nomination.
And earlier this week, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer told NBC's "Today" that she had an "opening conversation" with Biden's team.
