State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert is President Donald Trump's pick to be the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, according to reports, and she been offered the job, officials tell Fox News.
Though Trump himself later would confirm only that Nauert was under "very serious consideration" for the job.
"We have a lot of people who want the job, and there are a lot of really great people," he said, adding that an announcement will likely be made next week.
"Senior Administration Official tells Fox News that @statedeptspox Heather Nauert has been offered the job of UN Ambassador," Fox News chief White House correspondent John Roberts tweeted Thursday afternoon.
If Nauert accepts the increasingly prestigious diplomatic post, she will replace resigning U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley by year's end. Nauert's confirmation will be subject to a Senate hearing and approval.
Nauert met with President Trump on Monday and has allowed her deputy to conduct two State Department press briefings since, according to a CNN report.
