Dershowitz on Russia Probe: Mueller 'Not Playing This Effectively'

Robert Mueller, the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, has made some missteps, Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said Wednesday.

"He's playing right into their hands," Dershowitz said, referring to Mueller's critics.

"He's not playing this effectively. He's being sloppy. When you're going after the president of the United States, you make sure your personnel are not overtly biased against the target," Dershowtiz told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"You call them all in and you say, 'Are there any emails? Are there any messages that are going to be embarrassing? Show me everything,'" Dershowitz added.

Mueller should have gotten a warrant to obtain Donald Trump's transition team emails, he continued, and "you wear a belt and suspenders when you're going after the president."

"I would keep the pressure on Mueller. He is very concerned about his reputation… they have him where they want him. He will probably want to lean over backwards now to make any close calls in favor of Trump," Dershowitz said.

"It would be now foolish to fire him, which would create a political scandal, probably a move toward impeachment (of Trump), although there would be no justification for that," he continued.

"They should just leave it be," Dershowitz added.
