Akin: Campaign Going ‘Incredibly Well’

Monday, 10 September 2012 08:45 PM

Rep. Todd Akin said he is “very encouraged” that his campaign against Democrat Sen. Claire McCaskill is going “incredibly well,” Politico reported.

The Republican Missouri congressman said that voters have told him,  "‘We’ve already voted. The party bosses want to put anyone else in. Don’t you give up, you stay in there and you fight,’ ” according to Politico.

Akin made controversial remarks last month about rape and abortion, causing several party leaders, including presidential nominee Mitt Romney, to tell the Republican congressman he should step down.

A dropout deadline is two weeks away but Akin insists he’s “totally in” the race and said he’s getting encouragement to stay in the race, Politico reported. He has until Sept. 25 to get a court-ordered petition to end his candidacy.

“I’m not getting out,” Akin said, according to Politico. “I’m making that very clear. … I’ve tried to say it about five times.”
