The reportedly "heated" weekly Republican meeting featured biting questioning from Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., toward Defense Secretary Mark Esper, GOP sources told The Hill.

Kinzinger, an Iraq and Afghanistan War veteran, had GOP members reportedly sitting up in their seats during his frustrated and angry questioning of the Secretary Esper during Tuesday night's meeting, according to the report.

"Kinzinger let Esper know exactly how he felt about the Syria decision and the damaging, deadly repercussions it will have," a GOP source told The Hill.

Kinzinger, who serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has been critical of the Trump administration's troops withdrawal in Syria, tweeting President Donald Trump was showing "weakness":

"I just.... i mean.... what? @realDonaldTrump I thought you were going to defeat ISIS, that is why people voted for you. What changed? This is weakness. America is far more honorable than this."

Kinzinger's criticism did not stop Wednesday, as he tweeted:

"How is reconstituting ISIS, abandoning the Kurds, and green lighting a slaughter by the Turks not our concern? #questionsreaganwouldask"

And, adding an hour later on Twitter:

"'The PKK is probably worse at terror than ISIS...' #thingsreaganwouldntsay but  @realDonaldTrump did."

The PKK is the Kurdistan Workers' Party, a Kurdish militant group in Turkey and northern Syria, that Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan is now staging an incursion against after President Trump got American troops out of the way in the region.

The Hill did note Kinzinger was rejected in his request to be the administration's secretary of the Air Force earlier this year. Instead, Trump-appointee Barbara Barrett was confirmed in an 85-7 Senate vote Wednesday.
