Adam Schiff: 'Misleading' FISA Memo 'Cherry-Picked' Data

House Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Adam Schiff said Friday that the Republican memo alleging FBI surveillance abuses that was released "cherry-picked" classified information — and he ripped it as "deeply misleading and factually inaccurate."

"If you read the memo, it is very misleading — and that's the whole purpose of it," the California Democrat told Wolf Blitzer on CNN.

"The goal was simply to get a misleading piece of information before the public, help support the president, help discredit the [Russia special counsel Robert] Mueller investigation and the FBI, help do the bidding of the White House.

"That's all that's going on here."

Schiff dismissed Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan's assertion that the Democrats response to the memo could be released as early as next week.

"They know he couldn't hold off on release of the memo, but they wanted [the GOP document] to sit out there and see if they could solidify the narrative," he told Blitzer.

The congressman likened Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes, also of California, who oversaw the document's preparation to being a defense lawyer with a guilty client who's trying to put the government on trial.

"Sadly, they have used the president as his client — and his role is to protect his client."

Schiff added that with his public displeasure with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, President Trump was "dangling" his job.

"The firing of Rod Rosenstein, in my view, would be an obstruction of justice," he told Blitzer. "Just as firing Bob Mueller would be.

"It would be further evidence that what happened with [former FBI Director] James Comey was not an isolated act.

"To me, that would be a very definite part of a pattern of obstruction of justice."

Schiff also responded to the memo's release on Twitter:
