Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said Thursday that Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, declined to answer whether President Donald Trump ever asked him to hinder the Russia investigation, The Hill is reporting.

"I asked the attorney general whether he was ever instructed by the president to take any action that he believed would hinder the Russia investigation and he declined to answer the question," Schiff, the top Democrat on the panel, said. "If the president did not instruct him to take any action that he believed would hinder the Russia investigation, he should say so. If the president did instruct him to hinder the investigation in any way, in my view, that would be a potentially criminal act and certainly not covered by any privilege."

But Isgur Flores, a spokeswoman for Sessions, said the attorney general has repeatedly stated he would not discuss his communications with the president.

And Flores noted Sessions has previously denied being instructed by Trump to do anything illegal or improper, according to The Hill.

NBC News reported Donald Trump Jr. is expected to appear before the panel next week in a closed-door session.

He is expected to be asked about his June 2016 meeting with Russians in Trump Tower, according to the network news.
