Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said Silicon Valley is trying to help get Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden elected.
In an interview on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures," McCarthy decried the alleged political leanings of tech giants like Twitter and Facebook.
"Big Tech should be ashamed of how this so clearly trying to aid the Joe Biden campaign," he said.
According to McCarthy, it's time that Congress do away with Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act, which protects companies that host user-created content from lawsuits over posts on their platforms.
"It is time now that we scrap section 230 and we start over," he said.
McCarthy touted a bill from House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.
"That is where we should start because when I was [House] majority leader we brought in Big Tech," he said. "They would tell us one thing, but we have found they continued to do another. Just as China's trying to influence our election we now find that Twitter and Facebook are doing the exact same thing and they should be ashamed and the American public is outraged about this."
He also said the American public deserves to know the truth — before the election — concerning a controversial New York Post report on Hunter and Joe Biden.
The report said the former vice president met with a senior official from a Ukrainian energy firm that was at the center of a controversy over the dismissal of a prosecutor investigating the company.
"It comes down to one simple question," he said. "The American public deserves the right to know and Joe Biden has a responsibility to answer these questions, which he's avoiding. Before this election takes place, these questions need to be answered before the American public."
