Poll: Biden Support Slips, Still Top Dem for 2020

Former Vice President Joe Biden's support slipped but he is still the Democratic frontrunner for president in a new poll.

Results from the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll:

  • Biden has 27% support among Democrats and independents who lean Democratic, down from 29% on July 1.
  • Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., has 19% support from the same group, down from 23% in July.
  • Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., saw her support rise from 11% in July to 17% in the most recent survey.
  • Support for Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., is also dropping, as her numbers fell from 11% to 7%.
  • 38% said a moderate is more likely to defeat President Donald Trump in the general election, compared to 13% who said a liberal.
  • 23% of respondents said a man is more likely to defeat Trump, with just 7% saying a woman is a more electable choice.

The poll was conducted Sept. 2-5 and sampled 1,003 U.S. adults. The margin of error is plus or minus 5.5 percentage points.
