Trump Promises to Protect

By    |   Monday, 18 July 2016 10:55 AM EDT

America is unraveling. Racial tensions are at a multi-generational high, policemen are being stalked and murdered by our own citizens. Islamic terrorists like ISIS have gone global, able to reach out and kill Americans in our very backyards.

Is this the “fundamental transformation” of our nation that Obama and the left promised?

Police and the military are being systematically undermined and weakened by a divisive political left. The military has paid a devastating price over the past eight years in slashed budgets and force cuts. Military morale has not been this low since the Carter era.

And police morale isn’t exactly soaring either. Obama provides cover for violent movements like Black Lives Matter as being “contentious and messy.” So when they’re chanting “What do we want? Dead cops!” we should cut them some slack? How about when their chants come to fruition?

There is a popular adage in military and police circles, popularized in the movie American Sniper, that our society is comprised three types of people: wolves, sheep and sheepdogs.

In short: The term “sheep” refers to most people, average, nonviolent individuals going about their daily lives.

Wolves are violent predators, murderers, rapists, terrorists, etc., who prey on the sheep.

Sheepdogs are members of the armed forces, police officers, and others like them. These are men and women who voluntarily put their lives on the line to confront the wolves in order to protect the sheep. To paraphrase Orwell: rough men (and women) who stand ready to do violence on our behalf.

The left, of course, hates this analogy. They think wolves like ISIS or cop killers are just misunderstood victims. Their predatory behavior isn’t their fault. We’re told that America is actually to blame, because our nation is a biased, racist, bellicose nation where the privileged few get rich off of the backs of the poor.

And now after eight years, we are seeing the consequences of these social justice-centric, soul crushing policies. President Obama’s refusal to even name our Islamic extremist enemies, and his reluctant, check-the-block approach to attacking them where they live has given ISIS the space to expand their funding, ideology and reach.

The FBI confirms it has active ISIS investigations ongoing in all fifty states. Read that again: ISIS is active in All. Fifty. States. It isn’t a question of “if” there will be another attack; only where and when. Hope and change, indeed.

Obama’s Attorney General Loretta Lynch tells us that we must respond to Islamic terrorists with love and understanding. That’s as dangerous as it is naive. It emboldens ISIS. They don’t want to understand us. They want to kill us.

Sheepdogs know that wolves like ISIS only respond to brute force. We need a commander-in-chief with the will to bring to unleash our armed forces and bring to bear a sustained level of violence until ISIS is destroyed. Until that happens, ISIS will continue to slaughter Americans right here at home. But “victory” is not in Obama’s or Hillary’s lexicon. Unless they’re discussing Republicans.

Concurrently, policemen are being systematically stalked and murdered by the very people they are sworn to protect. Black Lives Matter members and supporters, empowered by the Democratic Party, call for confronting, even killing policemen. And that’s happening nationwide. Those murdered in Dallas are not even buried yet, and now three more are gunned down in Baton Rouge. This is sickening.

Obama has exacerbated racial divisions since his first days in office. He accuses cops of stupidity and connects their actions to America’s past of slavery and Jim Crow. Yes, cops sometimes make tragic mistakes. But does that automatically make them racists?

We need a president who will have the backs of our policemen in word and deed. A president who will focus on bringing Americans together instead of fomenting division for political gain. Until then, America will remain broken. Riots will increase, more cops will be murdered, and African Americans will continue to kill each other in record numbers.

Sheepdogs inherently grasp these national security issues. And that’s why they know who our next president must be.

Recent polling by the Military Times reveals that military support for Donald Trump outstrips Hillary by better than a 2-1 margin. It isn’t even close. And support for Trump with police officers is every bit as solid.

You “never-Trump” Republicans who are concerned with national security should ask yourself a question: Why do the overwhelming majority of sheepdogs favor Trump to be their next commander in chief?

And here’s your follow-up: if the sheepdogs favor Trump, whom do you think the wolves prefer?

Hillary makes it very clear she will be Obama’s third term.

Come November it’s your choice — sheepdogs or wolves.

Patrick Murray (colonel, U.S. Army, retired) was part of a military-diplomatic exchange program between the Pentagon and Department of State, where he served in the Bureau of Political Military Affairs in Washington, D.C. In 2005, Murray became the U.S. representative to the Military Staff Committee at the United Nations in New York under Ambassador John Bolton. After retiring from the Army in 2009, Patrick became the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Northern Virginia. He is the author of "Government is the Problem."
