If you didn’t watch the impeachment hearings, don’t bother to tune in unless you’re into watching paint dry.
As a public service, here are the takeaways:
These are Schiff’s A-list, go-to, Trump-is-going-down witnesses. Neither Ambassador Bill Taylor nor Deputy Assistant Secretary of State (DAS) George Kent wanted to be there, but they were subpoenaed.
They showed up to tell us, under compulsion, how they “felt” after hearing the second and third hand comments from others about the phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky. Because neither of Schiff’s star witnesses have ever met or spoken to Trump on any topic, much less Ukraine. You’d think that might be a key component for impeachment. Moreover, neither listened in on the phone call in question.
Therefore, everything that they expressed “concerns” about all came from third parties, to include what they read in The New York Times. All of which amounts to a lukewarm vegan meat substitute patty, or as CNN calls it; bombshell!
Quid Pro Quo
If this was a quid pro quo, it was the worst ever.
Why? Because the quid; aid to Ukraine, flowed.
And the Quo; the Ukrainians' investigation into Hunter Biden, never happened. Speaking of Hunter, during testimony today, back in the Obama Administration, DAS Kent voiced his concerns about how Hunter was getting boatloads of cash from the corrupt Ukrainian firm Burisma, while Hunter’s daddy was the sitting VP. And right while that was going down, then-VP Biden threatened to withhold $1 billion in aid unless they fired, within 6 hours no less, the prosecutor investigating the highly corrupt firm that was paying Hunter $50k a month, which is good work if you can get it.
Now that’s how you do a quid pro quo. Just sayin.’
Concerns About Ukraine
Democrats today were wailing over how Trump held up lethal aid to Ukraine for like, five weeks. Scandalous! An important ally was weakened! American foreign policy hinges on lethal aid to Ukraine! So the Democrats tell us.
But for eight years they were totally fine with Obama meting out… wait for it… blankets and MREs. And that was when Putin waltzed into Ukraine and took over the Crimea. So please. Just. Shut. Up.
Republicans repeatedly asked that the so-called “whistleblower” who started all of this oughta testify. The individual’s name is the worst kept secret in D.C. Schiff denied knowing who it is, which was as big of a lie as when Joy Behar denied she did blackface last week when Don, Jr. graced "The View." It’s impossible to keep secrets in Congress, and the “whistleblower” is allegedly a Democrat who’s filtered through the White House, the NSC and the CIA. No wonder Schiff won’t let him testify; it would Kevorkian this current iteration of the left’s “Impeachment-R-Us.”
Here’s the Bottom Line
Democrats and the mainstream media (synonyms, I know) have been itching to impeach Trump since he took office. And they haven’t even tried to hide it.
From sitting Congresswoman Maxine Waters discussing impeachment before Trump took office to The Washington Post, that said, on inauguration day, let the impeachment process begin, and the Congressman Al Green repeatedly introducing impeachment calls on the floor of the House before the Trump family had had time to unpack in the White House. And speaking of Green, he announced all we need to know: “I’m afraid if we don’t impeach him, he’ll get re-elected.”
This impeachment obsession on the Left undermines and divides our nation. Instead of passing the USMCA trade deal or working on our crumbling infrastructure, Democrats don’t give a damn about anything but impeachment. And that’s sad. And destructive to America. It undermines confidence in our institutions. It erodes the public’s faith in our elected leaders.
It also undermines credibility of the Democrat Party. And while on the surface that might sound like a good thing to conservatives, once this leadership goes away, what’s next? Well. Waiting in the uber-liberal wings are elected members of Congress like the Squad. Just for starters, they hate America. They’re anti-Christian, anti-free market, anti-liberty Socialists, just waiting to take over from Nancy Pelosi, et al. And that’s the most problematic possibility of all. Fight it.
Patrick Murray (colonel, U.S. Army, retired) was part of a military-diplomatic exchange program between the Pentagon and Department of State, where he served in the Bureau of Political Military Affairs in Washington, D.C. In 2005, Murray became the U.S. representative to the Military Staff Committee at the United Nations in New York under Ambassador John Bolton. After retiring from the Army in 2009, Patrick became the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Northern Virginia. He is the author of "Government is the Problem."
