Back in the day, the Greek philosopher Diogenes could be found pacing the streets of Athens, lantern in hand, in search of an honest man. Today we might find him in Washington, D.C., up on Capitol Hill, looking for an honest Democrat. Just one.
Every elected Democrat knows how dishonest and untrustworthy Hillary is. They’re aware of the corruptive swill that this modern day House of Borgia will bring to the White House. Yet since the rigged Primary that coronated her as the nominee, not one single Democrat has had the nerve to publicly question her fitness for office. Current Democratic vehemence over the re-opened FBI investigations is a perfect example. They give Hillary-the-cause a pass while aiming their verbal shotgun blasts at Comey the messenger.
The media dines daily on the jagged rifts within the Republican Party. Underlying this is the fact that the Republican base feels conservative leadership has gone AWOL. Republicans in Congress deny Obama not the slightest thing while our debt skyrockets, our borders are open and our military readiness tanks. Moreover, many self-serving, establishment Republicans have cut and run on Trump, despite the inconvenient fact (for them) that Trump was the biggest vote-getter in the history of Republican Primaries. Blame those deplorable conservative voters in the heartland, clinging to their guns and religion. Wait. . . .
Career politicians, regardless of party, are largely self-serving, doing what’s necessary to support and defend their incumbencies. That is exactly why we have Donald Trump for a nominee. He isn’t the cause of the GOP rift, he’s a symptom. Indeed, one of Trump’s most popular initiatives are congressional term limits. Go figure.
But while the Republican Party is now divided, it will eventually heal. Regardless of who wins on Nov. 8, conservatives are going to work through their internal hissy fits and will eventually emerge stronger. Not only because conservative values are timeless, but it is clear that the conservative base has made the decision to elevate their country over their political party. Character counts.
But for years now, the Democratic Party has done exactly the opposite. Democrats first flushed their integrity during the Clinton presidency when they plated Twister with their values in order to protect Bill Clinton. Yeah, he’s a misogynist and a perjurer, but he’s ours. Oh, and he’s pro-choice; and hot.
Fast forward to the striking cognitive dissonance with Obama. His presidency has been a shambles by every conceivable metric both at home and abroad. The economy remains a turd, we’re half as safe, twice as broke and badly divided. Jobs? Please. The unapologetic lies behind the Obamacare rate hikes were as predictable as they are now devastating to the middle class.
But Democrats will never, ever say a bad word about Obama, regardless of how bad it gets for Main Street America. Let’s see, buy groceries, gas, or pay my Obamacare bill? Gosh, if I only had a job. Try pointing out these realities brought on by this president, who happens to be African American, and suddenly you’re a racist.
And now like acid reflux, upchucks Hillary again. Devastating emails from WikiLeaks? Damn Russians. Repeated, deliberate national security breaches for four years? But she loves children! DNC rigs the Primary for her by throwing Bernie under the bus? OK maybe, but don’t you want a female president? Global pay-to-play by the Clinton Foundation while she’s Secretary of State? Did you see Trump’s latest mean Tweet? Brevity precludes the listing any more examples, so we’ll settle for one great big “ETC.”
What does all of this say for the character of the Democratic Party? Are they simply afraid of the Clintons, or have they already been fitted for the life vests that will keep them afloat and operating in the impending Clinton River of polluted, pay-to-play sleaze?
Democrat John F. Kennedy wrote "Profiles in Courage," and as a WWII combat veteran, Kennedy practiced what he preached. But he’d be hard pressed to pen any new Profiles from today’s generation of Democratic politicians. That’s what happens when you prioritize political party over country.
If you doubt the veracity of that statement, ask yourself why the Democratic party leadership would lie, cheat and steal in order to support someone who is under at least four separate ongoing FBI investigations such that, if elected, will engulf her presidency and preclude her ability to govern from day one. It could easily provoke a Constitutional crisis that could be devastating for America’s present and future.
Which brings us back to Diogenes. We really could use one honest Democrat. Just one.
