Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Alexander Vindman’s appearance on Capitol Hill in glittering Army dress uniform has been running on a loop on CNN, MSNBC, and the usual purveyors of fake news. This is a transparent and cynical public relations ploy by Schiff and the Democrats to inoculate their latest Potemkin Village witness from any criticism. Cynical because the Democrats don’t give a damn about military service; one need look no further than the Left’s dishonest takedown of General Flynn for proof. And then there’s Democrat Senator “Danang Dick” Blumenthal.
Before Vindman it was Vietnam veteran Bill Taylor. When he didn’t quite deliver the bang for the buck, the Democrats apparently decided they needed a dude in uniform. Enter Vindman.
That said, I’m not questioning LTC Vindman’s (or Taylor’s) character or motive; his Army career as a Combat Arms and Foreign Area Officer is solid and merits respect. But regardless of why he decided to testify, the bottom line is that all he really did was offer his opinion. But that didn’t stop CNN, whose impeachment motto is “We don’t report, we support!” from breathlessly touting Vindman’s “bombshell” testimony.
Here’s the relevant part of his “damning” statement:
“I was concerned by the call. I did not think it was proper to demand that a foreign government investigate a U.S. citizen, and I was worried about the implications for the U.S. government’s support of Ukraine. I realized that if Ukraine pursued an investigation into the Bidens and Burisma, it would be interpreted as a partisan play which would undoubtably result in Ukraine losing the bipartisan support it has thus far maintained. This would all undermine U.S. national security.”
OK, Vindman was concerned. He was worried. My my. So what? That was his opinion, which turned out to be as inaccurate as it was irrelevant. Ukrainian president Zelensky stated unequivocally that he was not pressured, and the aid to Ukraine flowed. We know all of this, because President Trump willingly released the transcript of the call, which clearly is something that Schiff and the Democrats did not count on. Because there’s no “there” there. Just another example of Trump being well inside of the Left’s unhinged impeachment decision cycle.
If LTC Vindman had concerns, the time for that was when then-Vice President Biden demanded that Ukraine fire the Ukrainian prosecutor who was investigating corruption in the company Burisma, who was shoveling cash to VP Biden’s son Hunter for his supposed oil and gas expertise. The only expertise Hunter had in that discipline was topping off his gas tank at the local gas station.
Otherwise, Joe Biden later boasted, he would withhold some $1 billion American aid. To Ukraine. So, Ukraine fired the prosecutor, and Joe’s son Hunter kept his $50,000 a month cushy job. Win-win for the Bidens! Right. If ever there was a quid pro quo (much less a partisan play) by a senior U.S. official, that was it. But don’t believe me, just ask quid-pro-Joe.
I respect LTC Vindman’s Army service. It also happens to closely resemble mine. But donning a dress uniform and parading in front of TV cameras on Capitol Hill doesn’t magically convey credibility to his opinions. And that’s all they are. LTC Vindman doesn’t establish U.S. foreign policy, President Trump does. The American people decided that. And Vindman isn’t the chief law enforcement officer in the land with the responsibility to investigate potential graft and corruption, President Trump is. The American people decided that one, too.
Alexander Vindman, willing participant or not, is the latest in a long line of failed attempts from the Left to overturn the legitimate results of the 2016 election. Sadly, as long as the Left hates Trump more than they love America, this madness that is ripping America apart is not going to stop.
