Media Bias on Trump Goes Beyond Mainstream

For years, you could find liberal media bias right on the same aisle as death and taxes. But when it comes to Trump, the media has gone way beyond just putting their thumb on the liberal scale. In 2016 media bias is old school; over, so 2012. What we are witnessing is a full-scale media blitzkrieg, offensive combat operations against Donald Trump and his supporters.

Journalists have self-evolved into shameless liberal activists with bylines in order to wage jihad against the Mammon who is Trump. Their self-justification is stunning.

Here are Facebook excerpts from Dan Rather, no stranger to playing fast and loose with those pesky facts: “No trying-to-be objective and fair journalist, no citizen who cares about the country and its future can ignore what Donald Trump said today . . . history is watching . . . We will see whether major newscasts explain how grave and unprecedented this is and whether the headlines in tomorrow's newspapers do it justice.”

Right-on Dan, who needs objective and fair when history is watching?

Here’s New York Times columnist Jim Rutenberg: “If you’re a working journalist and you believe that Donald J. Trump is a demagogue playing to the nation’s worst racist and nationalistic tendencies, that he cozies up to anti-American dictators and that he would be dangerous with control of the United States nuclear codes, how the heck are you supposed to cover him?”

So, you’d better watch out, Ireland. You keep trying to gouge Apple out of billions of dollars of tax revenue, President Trump might just nuke you right back to the preface the first "Outlander" book.

Then there’s Jorge Ramos of Univision, apparently channeling his inner Davy Crocket at the Alamo: “And I think in this case, neutrality is really not an option. I think we have to take a stand, and in this case Donald Trump is a unique figure in American politics.”

That Bigot Trump. Don’t worry about what he actually says, it’s all dog whistles, and the sheeple need to have everything interpreted for them. Mainstream media has decided that their 24/7 job is to shame naïve voters into not voting for Trump.

CNN is so far off the journalistic reservation that they are now editorializing the banners projected on the TV screen below the hosts. Here’s an example, which CNN hosts fully justified as being within their journalistic responsibility: “Trump calls Obama the founder of ISIS (He’s not).”

Seriously? Imagine if they gave Hillary equal treatment: “Hillary claims no classified email on her server (There was).”

Or how about Barack Obama: “Obama vows you can keep your healthcare plan (He’s lying).”

Concurrent with Operation Trump Takedown, the media has thrown up a defensive perimeter around their candidate Hillary, replete with minefields, moats, and overlapping fields of fire. When the token Trump supporter dares to wade in with a few syllables of concern over Hillary’s emails, the Clinton Foundation, Benghazi, or the state of her health, etc., they are immediately cut down in a withering crossfire by a phalanx of angry, eye-rolling Hillary sycophants.

Trump is now 70 years old and has been in the public eye for what, 30 years? And until he became the Republican presidential nominee against Hillary the worst complaint anyone had about him was that Gordian knot of a hairdo. OK, and maybe the spray tan.

But a racist? Or a bigot? Never.

What’s really happening is that there is no liberal playbook for Trump; the normal GOP candidate takedown strategy isn’t working against him. If the left had an eloquent, energetic and (relatively) scandal-free candidate they maybe could breathe easy, but they don’t. And they’re worried, because they’re stuck with Hillary.

In 2016 there was no likable alternative around like there was in 2008; this time it was either Hillary or a grouchy old Socialist. So game on, Mr. Trump.

The silver lining to this story is that with the media outlets like CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, and others, showing their true colors, they are losing customers, potentially making room for other viable news outlets, including Newsmax.

Michael Goodwin at the New York Post accurately portrayed this shameless media frenzy as the “collapse of journalism.” He’s correct, but it also come with a poison pill, which is that “the end justifies the lies.” Obama and his administration, content for eight years to be the president of 40 percent of America, encourages and even participates in this insidious duplicity.

And if the president of the United States is doing it, who are Don Lemon and Wolf Blitzer to demur? Whatever it takes. The lesson from today’s political left, aided and abetted by the mainstream media, is that telling the truth is for suckers.

Patrick Murray (colonel, U.S. Army, retired) was part of a military-diplomatic exchange program between the Pentagon and Department of State, where he served in the Bureau of Political Military Affairs in Washington, D.C. In 2005, Murray became the U.S. representative to the Military Staff Committee at the United Nations in New York under Ambassador John Bolton. After retiring from the Army in 2009, Patrick became the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Northern Virginia. He is the author of "Government is the Problem."
